The Proverbs 31 woman
On Mothers Day a lot of messages are given on the Proverbs 31 woman. She is a good woman. A lot of women hate her, because they feel like they can't like up to her standards. I remember speaking on the Proverbs 31 women. At that time I was only somewhere around 24. I had never been married. I wasn't even sure what life was all about. I had high ideas on the wife and mother I wanted to be. I was going to "Have it all".
Years later, I look back and I could cringe at what I said. It sounded good, but was sort of unrealistic. The Proverbs 31 woman is a composite of many women or a husbands being very proud of his wife. Actually if you read Proverbs 31 starting with the first verse, The words of King Lemuiel, which his mother had taught him. wise words from a mother and how to act, and what type of woman he should pick. The Amplified Bible says, an intelligently capable woman, The King James says a virtuous woman. Both are worth the price of rubies or in today's market, gold. An upright, intellegent, capable woman, is what any man needs to succeed. A woman who is not so focused on herself that she can't see the needs of her husband or family. Her husband is proud of her. She can cook and sew. She doesn't have to, but at the time this was written, women took care of the sewing of garments for the household as well as the cooking. If she was rich she had servents to help her, if she had children, the girls would help her. Now it is just as easy tobuy things ready-made.
She would look for a good deal. My husband and I both cook, when we married, both of us worked so we developed a whoever gets to it first attitude to the household task. This mother wanted to make sure her son married a capable, smart wife, who didn't lay around all day, neglecting household responsibilites. While he worked, she would run the household, she would make sure the bills were paid, and everything was taken care of. When I worked, I heard stories of men who worked all day and came home and, washed clothes and took care of the house while the wife who didn't work ran around with her girlfriends all day. Went to Wal-Mart and spent all of the money and didn't pay the bills. When she wasn't doing that she watched TV all day. There is nothing wroung with this once in a while, but if you have things to do you should take care of them first. The woman doesn't have to be perfect. Women get all stressed about the women mentioned in Proverbs 31. One of the things I found interesting is that she is a Godly woman, she seeks God and gains strength for the day ahead. Acknowledge the Lord in all of your ways and He will direct your path.
I am learning many things from this woman. I get up and see Matt off to work, we have prayer and I then sometimes do work around the house while listening to music or listening to Joyce Meyer, ect. I make phone calls, write letters, wash clothes, do other things around the house, some days I go back to bed, and I am what I call a "lazy bum". These days are not that often, there are times when rest is in order I am a student, I have homework to do.
It's all about balance. This mother didn't want her son to marry just a pretty face. She wanted him to pick a woman of substance and character. Don't hate the Proverbs 31 woman, see what you can learn from her. If you are like my sister and had twins and a two year old, there would be no way you could do all of those things. When I used to help her, I loved shows like Barney and other shows, because I could actually go to the bathroom withn the door closed. When you have a young family, you have to get up before they do and take a shower, if you don't it might be a while before it gets to the point where you can do things unless you have help.
I actually like staying at home. I don't know how long I will be here, I am at peace with it. When God says otherwise I will make myself content.
