Does God Have A Master Plan for You?
I was reading in "The Gospel Greats" newsletter that Paul Heil sends by email to subscribers. This is a way of keeping up with some of my friends in Southern Gospel Music. In it there is a section called Paul's Epistle, where he shares thoughts on current events and how they line up with scripture. In this weeks he asks, "Does God have a master plan for your life"? Interesting question. He gives his testimony about his love for radio, how he worked in college radio. Later producing a 30 minute newscast and doing a lot of interesting things. So this led me to do this blog, does God have a master plan for our lives.
In Jeremiah 29:11 God says: "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you saith the Lord, thoughts of peace and not evil, to give you an expected end." KJV In the amplified Bible "For I know the thoughts and the plans I have for you, says the Lord, thoughts and plans for welfare and peace, and not for evil, to give you a hope in your final outcome." In the NIV "For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you , plans to give you a hope and a future." All of those translations say that God has a plan for our lives. In His plan it is not to harm us, but to give us a future and a hope. What happens in life sometimes, we have our own plans. There was a fad in the 1990's called lifemapping. Planning a course for your life. There is nothing wrong with structure, but as your make plans ask God what He thinks of it. Let Him have your life... Some people really got into this master plan for their lives, they wanted to be a CEO by thirty, ect...Well, life has a way of getting in the way.
I heard someone say, "If you want to make God laugh, tell Him your plans". His plan is so much better than we could ever hope for. He sees the big picture, we see only a part of it. When I got out of high school in the mid 1970's, there was the push to go to college. I should have went, but I was told by people I thought knew me that I wasn't college material. Then I didn't know what to do. All I had was this interest in radio, finally someone put me in touch with Dan Blaney. At the time Dan was the top radio personality. I remembered when he called. I was excited. I went to the station for a tour. I saw the control boards and talked myself out of doing this. I'd never catch on to all of that stuff. I started broadcasting in 1976. The first day of school I went to the VA hospital and they radio a radio station there. Someone gave me a weather forecast to read. Well then I was hooked. I caught on to the equipment. I was able to mentor others.
Thirty years later, as I was training some new employees, one suggested I go to college so that I could teach broadcasting. They said that they learned more from me than they did in school. I didn't consider it at first. I began seeing ads about community college. All of this was in Gods plan. Sometimes there are detours, some you caused because of poor decisions and other life hands you. Sometimes God has another plan, you just go with it. It is scary because you don't know where the plan is taking you. You have no control, that is what some of us don't like about Gods plan, not having contol. We don't mind the plan, we just hate to lose control.
There is a song we used to sing in church that says "Trials dark on every hand and we cannot understand all the ways that God will lead us to that blessed Promised land, He guides us with His eye and we'll follow til we die. We will understand it better by and by." We don't always understand what God is doing in our lives. You can rest in the fact it is for your good, to give you a future and a hope...
