Mothers Day Once Again

Its Mothers Day once again and it is a hard day for those of us who have lost a mother. My moms birthday and Mothers day always were around the same time.  I really miss my mom, I don't have anyone to shop with, or anyone as a sounding board to talk to. She always had some good advice. I am like most kids, sometimes you didn't listen, because you thought she was being old fashioned.  What it was , she was young once and she knew what it was to be young, so she tried to stop you from doing something that you would later regret.

I used to think my mother was the meanest person in the world, making us do housework and all of that other stuff. Now I am glad she did make us do all of the things she did. Both me and Sharon are productive citizens.  I am sure at times being our mother wasn't easy and I am sure that some of the things we did as teenagers hurt , but she stood by us. We couldn't drive, so she took me to work no matter what time I had to be there, I was on time.  She also took me any where else I needed to go, driving across Bolt Mountain, going to and coming back from Kopperston from the outdoor gospel sings, to many other places. We went to a lot of lunches and dinners with the Beckley Christian Women's club and other functions. She gave me advice on being married and a lot of other things as well. When I first moved into my house she came to stay with me at night for a while. We would watch TV and do all sorts of things together.

This was my moms favorite time of the year. She said they moved to Mabscott in May 1947. She always liked flowers and plants. I plant flowers and plants every year, we used to go and pick them out and plant them. The saying is "You never miss the water until the well goes dry. That is the truth.  I hate to say this, but these young people don't really know what being a mother is all about. I remember when I was in grade school. I had a hard time, I thought I was stupid, but then I realized a few years back that I couldn't see the blackboard.  My mom used to work with me on my lessons, reading spelling and all of the classes I needed to keep up in.  When I first got in radio, she made me pick up my reading speed, by reading into a tape recorder, and playing it back. There were so many things...

I don't like Mothers Day,I miss my mom and also I wish I could have been a mother. I did everything the right way. I waited until I got married to even want to have children. The reason for this was, my best friend had a child at a young age and she was always fighting with the childs father about different things. He wouldn't buy formula for the baby or diapers and sometimes he didn't come to see the child as often as he should. I didn't want to go through all of that so I just said that I would wait until I was married to have a child. I didn't marry until I was 41. Kind of late to be having a child. That is something that still hurts, but God knows.

I DO WISH ALL OF THE MOTHERS A HAPPY MOTHERS DAY!!!!!!!!!!
