Its been a while since I wrote anything in the "Radio Daze" book. I just felt like I needed to write some more, so here it is

Chapter 23
Married Life & the Radio

Theresa and Lee got married, the first days were kind of surreal. The getting adjusted to each others habits and differences. Theresa was a morning person who liked to get up and listen to the birds sing and Lee, he would sleep in past 10 or 11 in the morning. To Theresa's way of thinking the day was half gone, by the time he would get up. Another thing Theresa had to get used to was just having a man around the house. She had been on her own for a long time and was used to doing things for herself or having her dad take care of what she couldn't It was quite an adjustment.  Of course there were adjustments that Lee had to make as well. One of the ones he had to make was whenhe would cook he cooked too much. He was used to cooking for six people and well, it was only him and Theresa there. They ate spaghetti for almost three days and then thew threw it out.

One of the things that they had to adjust was different work schedules. Theresa went in to work at the crack of dawn to do mornings and Lee came in at about eleven. They saw each other, but just a little bit. If Lee was working on a special project it could be a long day for him> Theresa didn't always know when he was coming home. That made for some interesting plans about dinner. How to cook something and keep it warm withoput it tasting like shoe leather when Lee came home. Lee liked to stay up late and Theresa liked to go to bed early. This led to some late nights because Theresa couldn't sleep with the light on. In the mornings she hated to get up because she was tired.  The first day she went back on the air as a married lady was scary, Theresa was nervous. She didn't know why. It was just different. Some husbands don't like to be talked about on the air, so Theresa didn't mention Lee very much.

Sometime during the winter months, it was deceided that Lee should come in early with Theresa and get the morning show prep and be around to do some things answer the phones, clear the parking lot off or whatever. So as she did with everyone else Theresa put Lee on the air with her. At first it was kind of awkward, but they began to relax and work together. It was fun. The hardest thing about working together was to keep home stuff at home. Since they were working together if something went wrong at home it had to stay at home. The same thing with work, if something went wrong at work it had to stay at work. That would get hard to do at times, because there were things that Lee had to keep quiet about, and he couldn't tell Theresa. When she found out that he had known some of the things for a long time, she was upset with him.  One of the things was when she found out that the company was being sold. She was upset that he didn't give her a heasds up about things. She was always afraid that they would figure they wouldn't need both of them there and she would be the one who would have to go. She had never really worked anywhere else and she didn;t have any contacts for other jobs. Theresa stayed in a state of fear during those days.  This is when she took a part time job at a local bookstore. She had to prove to herself, if the need arose, that she could do something else.  She sent a resume, without Lee's knowledge to one of the local bookstores, and they called her in for an interview. She Had Knowledge that would help the store. She also loved to read. She took the job without even asking Lee what he thought. She would work in the afternoon and early evenings.  Lee did resent not being aksed about the job, but the extra money was nice.  She kept her job a secret from the raduio station, because she wasn't sure what would be said. She had to at least try this adventure.  Working at the bookstore was hard at first because Theresa never had a job standing on her feet that long before, but as she caught on, she loved the interaction with the people and she knew about music and books.

In the meantime there was talk about grooming Lee to be the next engineer, so Theresa did as any good wife would do, she pushed him and encouraged him to go the extra mile. She encouraged to volenteer for extra shifts, to make himself available. He did for a while and things looked good.  Then Theresa's world fell apart. Her mother and best friend was diagnosed with cancer. This wasn't the kind that was operable it was multiple myloma. This was very serious.  As Theresa faced this, it was really hard to keep her mind on work. She had told her boss, and then one day she finally lost it when they called her in for something. It was something she had forgotten, but it wasn't a really big deal. She did what she swore she would never do. She broke down and cried in front of  the boss. Well, they asked her if she needed to take some time off, maybe a leave of absence. Theresa didn't want to do that, because she was afraid of losing her job. She did, however take a few days off to rest and to pray. This was one of the time Theresa almost let go of her faith in God.....

When you have a loved one that is sick the career takes a back seat. Marriage sometimes tends to take a back seat and Theresa felt like Lee was too clinical in his approach to her moms condition. There were times she would just go and sit onn the back porch and cry. .....
