It doesn't seem like Easter

When I went to get my hair done on yesterday, I surprised by how quiet the shop was. Then I asked the question where is everybody. I remember in days gone by the beauticians were busy doing hair for the Easter holiday. People who normally didn't get the hair done always got it done for Easter. I remember spending hours at one of the shops.  Things have changed. I really miss not being involved in a cantata of some kind or something. It just doesn't seem like Easter to me....

We celebrate the risen Savior and families go to curch Sunrise or the morning service and have dinner. Every since I can remember I have had a part in the Eastrer programs at church. When we didn't belong to a church here , my grandmother had me participate in things at the church she was attending. At seven or eight years old she gave me a twelve line recitation ( I called the speeches) to say at the Easter program. I was excited to learn all of that and was glad to say it thus beginning my public speaking career. As I got older I did plays and narrations. I was thinking this morning while at Mt. Zion at one point when I was about 13, it was me and Serita (now Jakes) that did a lot of the narrations of the things that went on. She had the voice and the poise for it , I had the voice and could memorize things very quick. There were times I stepped in and took a part that someone backout of at the last minute and I could learn it quickly. As I grow into adulthood, I was put in charge of some of the Easter programs and one of them I dd was "Easter the Beginning" it featured a cast of teenagers who we struggled with to get the to learn their lines, the were scenes that we had to act like something was coming over the radio, special bulletins and I got someone at work to record the radio parfts, put it on cassette and put a radio in front and had some back stage start and stop in. It was cool to do that. I participated in several cantata's at Mt. Zion and Memorial Baptist. I loved the music.

There was the tradition at home every since I took home ec in 9th grade of making an Easter buunny cake. We learned how to do a cake like that in Mrs. Holt home ec class. So I tried it at home my mom loved it. The next year we saw a simpler one in Good Housekeeping, that became the traditional Smith family bunny cake. I made it every year. Some times I used the white cake mix, othe times I used the carrot cake . I would make two cakes, one for home and my grandmother always wanted one. There were Easters I made three and four of these cakes. Then all of the kids got too old and didn't want a bunny cake anymore no one wanted one so I stopped making them.. I miss that.

In 2005 Matt and I went to Tennessee forr Easter. I enjoyed the change. It was too depressing here nothing to be involved in, no one wanted any of the stuff we used to do. My grandmother always made us an Easter basket. It is hard to get through this holiday, my mom and I used to go to sunrise service. I was used to getting up at the time of morning anyway so we would be some of the very few people away for Sunrise service.

I miss all of the things we used to do growing up. I miss taking part in things at church. Some churches don't have things like that anymore, because people are too busy. I like watching all of the movies everything from"The Passion on the Christ" to "The Ten Commandments". I like the older movies as well as the modern ones. These movies can have an impact on your life. Our pastor tell the story of getting saved while watching "Jesus Of Nazareth".  I will spend some of the day tomorrow watching the movies and celebrating the risen Savior and thanking and praise Him for saving a wretch like me.
