Chapter 15 Is This A Rerun Or What?

A New Year and Theresa had to face some challenges. College was more of a challenge than she realized. Working this term and going to school at night would be hard. The classes were harder and more time consuming. More responsibility at work and staffing problems made it hard sometimes to do well in school. School though was something she could focus on instead of the staff that was divided on -of all things- a contemporary Christian music program.
The program was called "Heartlight" and it was supposed to have youth groups supporting it was a challenge. The older people hated it and voiced their opinions on it.  Theresa had people to come in and take phone calls so the people on air wouldn't have to deal with negative phone calls. During that time she produced the album feature. She would do research one one of the top CCM albums and feature the album in three fifteen minute segments during the course of the three hour program. It was fun and exciting. Every once in a while she would be able to score an interview with one of the artist she featured, most of the material came from magazine articles. This did give her a chance to write.
Theresa had befriended a lady from church and she had helped her deal with the empty nest aspect of her life and now Theresa was a friend to travel to with her to and from the college to visit her daughter. She like the trips and talking to the lady who married later in life and was a sort of Godsend to Theresa. This was a lonely time for Theresa. In spite of the "friendship" Theresa heard some put downs and doing college as non-traditional student was hard. Theresa was about 27, and all of her plans to be married by now had fallen through. She was sad.
During this time she was called to jury duty and because of the staffing shortage she didn't serve. She was in the owners office when "The Challenger" exploded. They heard about it and one of the minsters was recording in the studio, when he heard it they were able to go on air live and pray for the families of those who lost their lives.  Theresa wondered if she would be like Judith Resnick, one of the single astronauts who was smart, but wasn't married. This haunted her , because her 28th birthday was coming up.  On her twenty eight birthday Ted and another friend surprised her with a cake.
Everything was going fine until all hell broke loose. One of the people that Theresa worked with decided to try to undermine her authority and start trouble. It was a terrible time and Theresa didn't really know what was going on until she almost got into trouble. When she came home from work her mother took her shopping and give her a plaque "A Successful Woman". At this same time Nate had called and invited her to lunch with him and his co-workers. She went, but was very apprehensive about him coming back into her life.  Later Nate called her saying he needed some money. Something about an over payment on his job. He was paid for time that he didn't work. He was  in an accident the year before. He was supposed to pay the money back. He couldn't so they threatened his job. He needed two thousand dollars.  Theresa was saving money to buy a house and she had the money. She had loved him once and she felt sorry for him, as he struggled to get back on his feet after such a devastating accident. She gave him the money.  Over the course of the next few weeks the relationship began to rekindle. She didn't want it to, but with the stuff going on at work, she felt she had no other choice. Nate gave Theresa an engagement ring, which she really couldn't explain, because he just said that he wanted to give her something for being so nice and understanding to him.  Something was wrong, in her spirit she felt that she should wait, there were several things that told her not to rush things, because they were not what they seemed. She didn't  She began to wonder if this was a rerun or what.
Things began to settle down at work, the trouble maker was fired. There were still problems with the program but Theresa was busy with college and it didn't affect her much. She just let things run their course. She was invited to have dinner with some up-and-coming artists that were friends with a family in the area. It was fun meeting them, the next day she went to their concert. She was able to do interviews and helped promote a gospel sing held at a state park . She also went to the "Outdoor Gospel Sing" that first year and interviewed some of the singers there. This was fun and Theresa thought that maybe this would help her career.  She never imagined that things would turn out as they did, in later years.
