Sisters
I guess you would say I am blessed and other times I wonder. I have a sister, she is three years younger than I am. We are not twins by any stretch of the imagination. Sharon is a little taller than I am, her hair is darker than mine. Her personality is different. She is more squarely shaped than I am, need I go on. Sharon was born September 16, 1961. I remember me staying with Miss Mairah because mama was at the hospital. The story was that my mom was on her way in to work when she went in to labor. She said she had been feeling bad for a few days and right before Sharon was born, she began to feel better, lighter. She got ready for work and she went upstairs. Since she was an employee, her benefits took care of the baby, ect. They say Sharon was red headed at birth. Her hair still has a reddish blomde tint to it.
Sharon was always a handful as a baby. My job was to help mama with Sharon. Back in those days you didn't have to put kids in a car seat or carrier. My job was to hold the baby while my mom drove. Pretty daring for a three, almost four year old . I helped my mom give Sharon a bath. Sharon was one of those babies who would wait until you give her a bath and then you would end up having to give her another one after you got her dressed. Somehow she always managed to either spit up or poop on her clean clothes. When she was about 16 months old, I remember her tracking poop through the house. When she was two I was helping her use the bathroom, she fell in and it scared me, I thought she would flush. I was screaming and my mom came in to see what was wrong.
When Sharon started school it was my responsibility, being the oldest, to help her get ready and off to school. I hated that. Sharon never wanted to get up. I used to tickle her feet to wake her up. She was slow as a slug. Being on time meant nothing to her. She could never find her shoes or glasses. Once she even laid her glasses in the road, because she didn't like them. My mom made her go back and find them, they were still where she left them. When she was in second or third grade, Miss Madden came to the school. She worked with the students, she knew Sharon was the youngest child and the baby of the family. She talked to my mom and changes were implemented in the house. I was no longer responsible for Sharon's chores or finding her stuff, Sharon was. What a relief!!! Sharon learned to cook and do for herself.
As teenagers we were close at times and at times she was jealous. Sharon had bad acne and a weight problem as a teenager. She hated the fact that my acne was clearing up and I had a weight problem at one time, but I had lost the extra weight. She got picked on in school and she had learned to cook, in the evenings after a stressful day of school, Sharon would come in and fry a pan of potatoes. During this time my mom was working at a grocery store in the evenings. As soon as she would leave for work, we cranked up the stereo and played music most of the evening and goofed off. At this time we were close. Then the dating game started. I started working and wasn't home much. She would come up to the radio station in the evenings. She had crushes on some of the guys there.
One day I came home from work and she was telling me that she havd gotten a visit from a guy we had went to Bible study with. They began dating and they got married. She had three kids and then they got a divorce. Sharon is a good sister at times and other times can be quite worrisome. Sharon going shopping, she acts like she is on a mission from God. Her calling is to shop. Just pray for her, she could use it.
