9/11 Twelve Years Later
Today marks another terrible day in our nations history. 9/11, when two planes flew into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and one heading for the White House went down in Pennsylvania
This day is forever etched in my mind, many things changed on this day or because of this day. Some good changes and some bad.
You never know what a day will bring. It pays you to love hard, laugh hard and live as best you can and be prepared. I was listening to the news this morning talking about all the memorial services to be held in different. My mind went back to Todd Beamer and the people on flight 93. As it was headed for the White House. People knew something had to be done. It would have been easy to not do anything, but Todd and a group of passengers rushed the cockpit. The famous phrase "Lets Roll". I think of the children he left behind two of them are young men now. I wonder if they understand what a great thing their father did. I look at Kirsten and Caylon, they were nine back then. Both of them have grown up to be sensitive, bright and capable young people. Rihana was 11 scheduled for back surgery. She is starting on her career now, very aware and bright. It has been five years since my mom passed away. My dad is still here, but all the hard work he did as a young man keeping a roof over our heads and food on the table has taken its toll on him. He still tries to look after me and Sharon I remember the night of September 11, 2001. No one was out everyone was at home, with their families.
I remember feeling like I had lost someone. It was about seven years later when I saw some of the people that were from New York that I spent my summers with growing up. I actually had tears of joy in seeing them I hadn't seen them in twenty years or more and I didn't know if they had jobs anywhere near the World Trade Center or not. I remember going to the church and praying for our country. We still need to have that urgency to pray. The way things seem to be going we could be just another incident from an attack. We don't need to take each other for granted. I thought about that as I prayed, this morning as I kissed Matt goodbye as he left for work and I was leaving to go to Bluefield. I am thankful that the Lord has kept us from all hurt harm and danger.
