Dust On The Altar
Children are scattered all over this land
We've lost our love for our fellow man
Father and mothers are parting today
There's dust on the altar where we used to pray
Let's seek out the old paths and walk therein
Our children are crying, dying in sin
Satan is laughing as God's people stray
There's dust on the altar where we used to pray
Tears that were once shed for a brother in need
They are now called old-fashioned
They are no longer seen
Greed and proud hearts have gotten in the way
There's dust on the altar where we used to pray.
Let's seek out the old paths and walk therein
Our children are crying, dying in sin
Satan is laughing as God's people stray
There's dust on the altar where we used to pray.
I heard this song in 1985. One morning I went to work and was listening to the program that came before "Joy In The Morning". The preachers name was Oden E Lockhart. That song really got to me. During that time I was having a crisis of my own. I had began to stray a little bit. I had felt like I had recieved the call to the ministry and I got some very discouraging advice from someone I went to talk to about it. So I started drifting away, because I couldn't figure out that if God placed this call on my life, why would people discourage me. I didn't understand why someone would say some of the things they did. I was struggling enough with the fact that I would have to leave the church I was in because they didn't accept women in ministry. I wasn't ready for all of that. I should have realized that the calling was a process.
I did the only thing I knew to do and that was run away from the calling. I started doing things that I knew were wrong for me, I quit reading the Bible and praying. I came to work that morning and that song was on. Years later that song still sticks with me, because I have never seen a time when people are so vocal about what is wrong with the country than now. I don't know if they realize that God can move more through prayers than people arguing and expressing their opinions. I look at opinions like that, they are like noses, most people have one. I have been watching CBN and they were having a "pray for America" rally and asking people to pray for our country. I have been praying, I hope others have been as well, because some where we have gotten off of the track. Christians have gotten off of the track, we don't pray for those who are in leadership of this country unless we agree with them politically. The Bible comands us to pray for those who have rule over us. We get enough people praying, God will turn some things around.
When I was young I heard and read the scripture that in the last days there would be a great falling away from the church. I couldn't understand why, I do now. Many use the church for personal gain. They don't care about the lost souls or those in need. They just want to be healthy, wealthy and wise. Most people are believing God for the new house or the new car instead of believing God for souls being revived or saved. No one listens to each other anymore, they want to have the last word, when in reality God has the last word. Let's pray and ask God to forgive us for allowing the dust on the altar, let's pray and help our brothers and sisters in need. Let's pray for our leaders whether we agree with them politically or not. Let;s pray for our nation as a whole, no matter who is in the White House, unless God is in the equation, the things in our country will only get worse. No one person can fix it. God can. Let Him be the author and finisher of our faith.....
