Chapter 17 The First Steps On Her Own.

Theresa had the house. It was a cute house in need of some TLC. Theresa spent her weekends working on it with her mom. This was an easy distraction from Nate who was trying to come back in her life. She was advised to keep busy with the house she did.  She was getting back  to her old self.  Finding joy in music and simply relaxing at home and working on the house. She hadn't moved in yet. There was a lot to be done. Each room was painted, furnishings were carried in a little at a time. The neighbors got concerned when they saw the stereo and the big speakers and the huge record collection come in.  One of them even went as far to call Theresa's grandmother and ask if she was quiet. Theresa began to deal with the breakup with Nate. Some of the church people were talking about her and he was a minister. During this time the Lord had began to deal with her heart as well.  As she began to recover there was a TV show that helped her. It was a fantasy show called "Beauty and the Beast". She could identify with the character Catherine, who was kidnapped beaten and left to die and this character named Vincent bought her to a place where she could heal and get stronger. Theresa began to heal and get stronger herself.
At work things were going OK. Theresa was meeting once a week with one of the managers, learning about promotions and ways to boost the listenership of the station. Crazy, but fun contests were held; for example, on St. Patrick's Day, take a caller and have them name 17 green things. Small, but fun contests, in which music or food certificates were given. She learned about the music rotation. The playlist couldn't be as tight as one some stations, because Southern Gospel didn't move as fast as other formats.  It was fun and challenging at the same time. It was during this time there was a need for an alternative for the traditional trick or treating tradition for Christians. Theresa and Ted came up with the idea of "The Heavenly Harvest".  October in some places was harvest time, they would have this event at the hotel where they had held other events. They would have music and the kids could go around to the hotel shops and trick or treat. There would be a costume contest, bobbing for apples etc. The first one was such a success with over one hundred kids and their families showing up. The event was too big for this location. In the wrap notes, they read a need to find a larger location.

Also there was to be an anniversary concert for the station. The station came on the air in November 1946, so Theresa and Ted thought it would be great to do a listener appreciation concert. The group that they ended up using was an up-and-coming nationally known group. The only thing crazy was the night of the concert, when Theresa went home to change, there was a bad snowstorm. In a matter of hours four or five inches of snow had fallen. Theresa was trying to get to the concert, because she had the check to pay the group for their services. Ted was already there taking care of things. When Theresa got there, she was surprised that about 200 people had made their way through the snowstorm.  It was an exciting time in her career.
One day Theresa was sitting at home watching a minister on TV. As he taught he talked about how to forgive others who hurt you and you didn't deserve it. His suggestion was that you couldn't always go to them in person, but you could still exercise forgiveness. He suggested getting a chair and have it facing you and then you put that person in that chair and tell them all the ways that they hurt you and then say, because of Jesus Christ , who forgave me I can forgive you. Theresa wrote down everything he said went upstairs to find a chair. She put Nate in it and began to tell him off. She even kicked the chair and at the end she said because Jesus Christ forgave me, I can forgive you. At this point she felt like a load had been lifted from her shoulders. She could go on and move ahead.  Forgiveness released her.....
