A Tale Of Three Worlds
ENTITLEMENT MY foot!!! Working people paid for Social Security!!! Our benefits aren't some kind of charity or handout!!! Congressional benefits - free health care, outrageous retirement packages, 67 paid holidays, three weeks paid vacation, unlimited paid sick days - now THAT'S welfare. And Congress has the nerve to call our retirement an Entitlement? Re-post if you are sick of their crap, and ashamed of our "leaders".
I saw this and I re-posted this on FB. Here is my tale. It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. There were millons of people who had lost their jobs, and the price of gas and groceries and goods and services were going up.
There was a lower middle class couple and both of them worked. They weren't rich, they paid most of their bills, and occassionally had a little money to goof off with. One morning the wife went in to work and was told her job had been eliminated. She had seen this coming, so she wasn't surprised. She had went back to school for retraining and contacted an agency who was supposed to help her with this. She signs up for unemployment. She has years of work experience, but in her searches, she can't find a job. She had several interviews, but there was always someone a little more qualified and not as old as she was. She had worked witha disability for years and wanted to work. No one would hire her. Of course they didn't come out and say she was too old or she was overqualified. They used phrases like moving forward with people more qualified for the position. Out of frustration she files for disability. During the time she was waiting for her disability the household income was cut to the husband's income. The husband couldn't find a second job, because he was overqualified and a lot of places weren't hiring. She tried to sign up for various programs and was told that the husband made too much money. They had the same bills they had when they both worked, but everyone asked for the last years tax returns and basically said that the couple made too much money.
They had to ask family for money, to pay bills with. They asked their church for help and they signed up for food pantries. She got her disability and it was an OK amount, but it was still difficult to make ends meet. There was talk about the government reforming social security and talked about other "Entitlement" programs. She was upset, she had worked for this money and couldn't help it that she had a disability. When she would critize the government family member who were coming from a different perspective couldn't understand where she was coming from....
In the world of Congress of the United States, you can serve there and not do your job and get re-elected year after year. You taxpayer money is used to go on fact-finding missons, but in reality it is a vacation. This lower middle class couple couldn't afford a lavish vacation. They vacationed with family. Congress has exclusive health care. They see the best doctors and have what they need, no preexisting conditions or having to have preauthorization for medications. The lower middle class woman lost her health insurance when she lost her job. She was offered COBRA, but it was too expensive. She checked into the Health Rite free clinic, but for two people in the household they missed it by thirteen dollars. In congress when you bounce checks someone covers, the lower middle class gets slammed with banking fees. In Congress you get an outrageous retirement and pension plan, plus book deals, if they are voted out they get book deals speaking engagements, there is money coming in all of the time. The lower middle class, where she worked did away with the retirement plan, the little she had saved uo had to be used to pay up all the bills when she lost her job. There was no way to make extra money for her. She asked around and no one had anything and she was slammed by work at home scams. In congress their kids go to school for free. The lower middle class lady didn't qualify for anything. She went to school on student loans. Later the agency paid for some of it. She and her husband couldn't have children so there was no earned income credit or anything like that. She gets upset when social security is called an "Entitlement" prograam...
There is another world we haven't began to explore. It is the "Entitlement" world. This is the world where able bodied people don't work. Let me preface this by saying if someone gets hurt or an emergency happens something should be in place. In some cases able bodied people who won't work, because they can get a check, snap benefits and housing. In some cases all they have to do is have children. They also can get child care if they go to school. They get grants to go to school with. Some of this is necessary, but this should no be a permanent fix. There is a lot of fraud in this program as well as in congress. Who foots the bill for all of this? The lower middle class couple with no kids.
There are ways to cut the budget without hurting those who need it the most. They need to look at funding of studies, NPR or Planned Parenthood. They need to raise the payroll tax cap. The other thing is congress should not be allowed to give themselves a raise. No one else gets a raise like that. Someone said that life wasn't fair. The government will make sure of that...
